Embroidery & Crafts

I started doing embroidery as a curiosity, something that I always wanted to try but never did. After my first lesson, I knew that this would become a passion for me and a graphic tool for my artworks. When I was on holidays (pre-COVID-19 era) started two online embroidery courses to learn basic stitches and applications. I was attracted to lettering embroidery, how to play with the threads and stitches to create different textures and give an extra punch to a simple word. Also, I tried modern embroidery like geometric shapes and plants (tough ones but worth it!!). For now, I will show you my progress and how I started mixing other techniques to create a unique artwork.

Learning stitches

When I started my first embroidery letters, I felt it was not that difficult as I thought. It was interesting to know the different threads that you can use and what effects you can create with them, different needles and fabrics. The sewing world was open for me, and I was ready to find more about it. By the end of my first course, I had to complete a final project combining all the stitches learned.

Blua Design

After finishing my first embroidery course, I tried my designs so I can keep practising the stitches. Here a beautiful result.

Mixing media

While I was practising different stitches, I found an artist that was using watercolours and embroidery. So I was fascinated by the idea of mixing other mediums with my new embroidery skills. Here I painted the fabric first to give a little extra to the design. Then I tried stitching on paper, not the easiest one though but definitely, is something that you must try and experiment.

Pattern or not Pattern

After my second online course, I was highly motivated because I learned new stitches to create volume and different textures. I did my stitches guide so I could go to it whenever I need it. For my final project, I painted the fabric with watercolours and made a drawing. I didn’t use any pattern from the courses or the internet. I wanted to represent something that had on my mind for a while, a big ocean wave with different textures and some colourful nature. I am so happy with the final result.

My kind of Modern Embroidery

So, these are my latest embroidery works. I used some patterns that I found online (only the Cancer Pisces Scorpio Squad is my design). I am very impressed with the different ways that you can use embroidery and that with simple stitches, you can create so many different shapes. I think for now I will keep doing embroidery as wall art and using my designs. I will keep practising so I can master the skills
